Saturday, August 10, Wounded Heroes held its annual Gold Star Family picnic and fishing day at Palmer Lake, Colorado. This an awesome time for the attendees to just show up and relax, enjoy the outdoors, watch 35-children fish play at the family friendly park’s water’s edge and fill up with outstanding hot food lunch. There were 68 Gold Star Family members who attended, with 20 volunteers, 7 Air Force Cadets from the Air Force Academy Baseball Team, all were heavily involved in fishing with the children, US Army Sergeant Major Mike Contreras, wife Jacquee and family, their oldest son Demetrius US Army and one other Soldier from Fort Carson, additionally, several returnee Veterans that made their way to volunteer once again. THANK YOU! WH USA had the event lunch catered by Texas Roadhouse, plenty of food for everyone. There was recognition of 3 birthdays, and a birthday cake was presented. Thank you to the Survivor Outreach Services, Fort Carson Angela Gunn-Rivera, Supervisor and James Kilpatrick, Coordinator for allowing Wounded Heroes USA to help families of our fallen military.
