9 August 2025 – The Annual Gold Star Fishing and Picnic was held. For 15 years, Wounded Heroes USA, Bill Miller, and this year’s team, Brian Miller, Dave and Joyce Quintana, the Survivor Outreach Services, James Kilpatrick, and Angela Gunn at Fort Carson, teamed up to provide the annual event. Volunteers from the Colorado Division of Wildlife. This year, Mission BBQ provided catering for 70 attendees. The menu included sliced brisket, pulled pork, sausage, baked Mac-N-Cheese, baked beans, cold slaw, slider rolls, and bottled water and soft drinks. Three Gold Star Mothers volunteered to serve the food. Thank you! There were three types of BBQ sauces. The dessert provided by the SOS was cherry pie, apple pie, and assorted cookies. I recommend doing business with Mission BBQ. The event was held at Fort Carson, Townsend Reservoir, and Pavilion. The reservoir was stocked about one week and a half before the event with 500 pounds of rainbow trout by the Fort Carson Wildlife Manager. Bottom line: an awesome time was had by all.
